Mohamed Elneny fired a reminder to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta with the opening goal in a pre-season friendly against MK Dons.
The Egypt international has not played for the Gunners since a 3-1 victory over Burnley in May 2019.
But Elneny broke the deadlock in the fourth minute when he capitalised on an error from MK Dons goalkeeper Lee Nicholls to hit the ball into an empty net from 40 yards on Tuesday night.
Arsenal doubled their advantage six minutes later when Bukayo Saka’s cutback found Eddie Nketiah and hs first-time shot beat Nicholls.
MK Dons were handed a lifeline when former Manchester United defender Regan Poole’s cross was aimed for Carlton Morris, but Rob Holding got his head to the ball and inadvertently directed it past a helpless Bernd Leno and into his own net.
Reiss Nelson sealed the victory late on from the penalty spot by sending the keeper the wrong way.
Just 24 days after lifting the FA Cup, Mikel Arteta’s side are back in action at Stadium MK, with just four days until the Community Shield at Wembley on Saturday against Premier League champions Liverpool.
