The Gunners have confirmed the appointment of Edu, as the club’s new technical director.
Edu Gaspar, 41 worked as the general coordinator for Brazil but has been replaced by Juninho Pernumbucano as he joins Arsenal FC.
In an official statement by the North London giants, Edu would be responsible for coordinating the first-team coaching group, the academy and scouting and recruitment. He will go to the United States on Thursday as part of the club’s pre-season tour.
The head of football, Raúl Sanllehí, described Edu as
“a true Arsenal man”
and said
“His arrival is the final and very important part of the jigsaw in our development of a new football infrastructure to take us forward. He will be working closely with Unai Emery and the first-team coaches, and will play a relevant role leading our football vision and ensuring we have – and follow – a solid philosophy through all our football activities.”
The Brazilian played for the Gunners from 2001 to 2005 and now returns in the capacity that the club has been searching to fill for a long time.
Arsenal have been tailing Monchi of Sevilla for some time but Edu’s appointment means a lot to the club as he has once been a player and knows the club better.
The confirmation has been on the cards for a while now but was subject to a lot of factors.
The fans would be excited as the role has been filled and it is reported that the new guy had a hand in the signing of Gabriel Martinelli who has been unveiled by the club.
