Arsenal will travel to the St. James’ Park on Sunday, August 11, 2019 for the opening match of the 2019/20 Premier League season.
Contrary to the opening fixture the North London Giants had last season, Unai Emery’s men will face a lower table-placed team in the new season, Newcastle United.
The two clubs last met in an opening day fixture in 2011 as Arsenal held on to a goalless drawn game.
After the trip to the north east, Arsenal will host Burnley at Emirates Stadium, before facing Liverpool at Anfield on August 24, 2019.
The Gunners then have their first north London derby of the season as Tottenham walks to the Emirates, with the reverse fixture taking place on April 25.
We round off the season by hosting Liverpool, travelling to Aston Villa and then facing Watford at home on May 17, 2020.
FIRST FIVE GAMES AND MY VERDICT:
FIRST FIVE GAMES BREAKDOWN:
First is an away game to Newcastle United, then a home game against Burnley. Then a tough game away to Liverpool who were runner and up last season with 97 points and then a North London derby home game, before traveling to Watford.
MY VERDICT:
Comparing the opening five to that of last season, there not much difference as Arsenal played Manchester City and Chelsea subsequently.
This season however poses the same threat as Liverpool games before a North London derby mixed with a tricky start and followed with an opposition that has been relentless after being promoted into the league.
A good start to the new season will be Arsenal winning 3 games out of the five and if possible draw against the two clubs.
The worst scene scenario will be losing to Liverpool and Tottenham and an open day defeat at the hands of Newcastle United.
Either ways, the fans will be demanding a top four finish from Unai Emery as he enters his second season in the helms of affairs.
